CLEANSE DAY #1: salmon and black rice

my student, carole, and i are doing the doctor oz 21-day cleanse!  there’s so much you can still eat, and so far, half a day in, i’m loving it!

i thought i would post all my meals, and the recipes, mainly so i remember what i’ve done.

breakfast: i had a smoothie with protein powder, kiwi, green apple, mango, coconut water, and some spinach leaves.  i think that’s it.  i drank 3/4 of it, and saved the rest for a snack this afternoon, if i need it.

chamomile tea instead of coffee.  no coffee or alcohol on this 21-day ride.  sigh.  but it’s definitely time to do this.  i have no peace and poor digestion.  so there.

lunch:

salmon with miso paste, fresh ginger and garlic, and a dash of bragg’s amino acids (which is just a substitute for soy sauce).  cooked in a skillet with coconut oil.

also,

black rice with garlic, basil, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, one tomato chopped, one squash chopped, and some salt and pepper.

time for a nap, which is probably something i will need every day that i don’t have my coffee.  🙂

and then, the day got much worse.  caffeine withdrawal is REAL.

but, i managed to make dinner:

chicken taco salad with black beans, avocado, roasted veggies, homemade salsa and homemade tortilla chips!!!

the recipe called for brown rice tortillas and i couldn’t find those anywhere.  so i’ll be out looking for those this week.  instead, i used multigrain tortillas, which is not at all what i was supposed to use.  but it’s the first day, and i wanted to try these home baked chips.

if you haven’t tried these, you GOTTA!  they are so amazing!  cut up tortillas into triangles and throw them on a pam’d cookie sheet.  brush with olive oil and a little bit of kosher salt and bake in the oven at 400 for 5-8 minutes.

the texture is amazing!

i liked my salsa this time as well.  i added a red pepper, which added a nice sweetness without using sugar or agave.  here’s that recipe:

homemade salsa:

1 can chopped tomatoes, drained

1 clove garlic

some onion

cilantro

a dash of olive oil

squeeze of one lime

half a red pepper

one jalapeno

S&P, and cumin

blend and serve.  i was even too lazy to get my food processor out, and just used my blender.  it worked just fine.

day one done!
